Attached is a handout from a class I did several years ago for our club.
We've used the video of that class a couple times since, but haven't recently. We do try to have a couple experienced sawyers on hand when we do our annual wood lot cleanup day, and offer hands-on instruction to those who need/want.
The class was based on a course I co-developed for the local boy scout camps, which in turn was based somewhat on the inter-agency (forest service etc) S-212 course I took (too many years ago).
I did not include felling in the woodturner's course - it's just too complex without a lot of time and hands-on practice. Especially when factoring in that the trees woodturners are most likely to be tempted by are old/diseased/dying deciduous trees with large crowns in an urban environment (houses, power lines, people, etc).
