1st post, so be gentle!! I have some cherry rounds, between 8" & 12" diameter x 22" long. Would they be any good for turning?

Larry that is the worst stuff you can turn, I would just package it up and send it me in Florida, that way you won't have to mess with it. :cool2: Really I love Cherry, it and FL Rosewood are my favorite. I would reccommend you seal the ends of the logs so it won't crack as much or at least slow it down. Depending on the heart wood color, etc, the only problem will be getting it out of the house to sell, I find that my wife and family won't let it out the door. Have fun!!

How long have they been cut? If green, I would take the 12" round and cut it in a couple 13" lengths, split them and seal them with anchorseal. If you do that, at least those won't check or crack.
The 8" pieces , I would cut a couple of them into 5" lengths and do the same.
There is nothing worse than to have a piece of beautiful cherry and have it crack while it's in the log.
Just my opinion, for what it"s worth. Gary
P.S. The 13" and 5" lengths gives you a 1/2 inch on each end for truing up.

They have been cut about 30 days. I also have another one cut down that has a lot of burls, about 6" in diameter, but it is covered in poision ivey or poision oak. Also, I have 2 dogwood trees that have to go, but only 5" in width by 12' tall. Does dogwood have good grain?
Dog wood works easy when green, gets kind of hard when dry. It is light colored sap with some nice brown heart wood. It finishes really nice and sands easily.
dogwood also makes great tool handles, mallets and spoons etc. when green, once it dries, it's not as much fun to work.
