Clyde looking for a finish for coffee cups

I tried my hand at turning a red cedar coffee cup with stainless steel insert and walnut handle. I finished it with a shellac but was told that shellac doesn't hold up well to lots of use. Should I use lacquer or something else? I don't know much about finishes. Thanks
