Hello Fellow Turners

Im David Snell, relatively new to turning. I’m a weekend turner given work, family, and other interests. I have started with pens, and about ~20 months back joined my local guild (Catoctin Area Turners), joined their board as the member at large (last year and his year), joined AAW. I’m now on the journey for turning bowls and other interesting projects. I have a lot to learn and build my turning skills.

Im a supply chain professional, just past 35 years with a large aerospace and defense company. hoping to retire sooner than later, no firm date yet, which will give me more time to turning.

Attached are pictures of my new shop. While im very active with my other hobby with tropical fish (30+ year, keeping, breeding, South America collecting, up to 60 tanks in two rooms), It was time downsize to better use my space and free up my ½ of the garage to get my car inside by converting my larger fishroom to my lathe shop. Since last summer I’ve been redoing the room, flooring, drywall repairs, painting, electrical, cabinetry, shelving, French cleats, dust collection etc. etc. It’s time break in the new space and get it covered in wood chips. Yes it appears I have a lathe tool collecting problem, as I’ve collected many via tools. In my garage I have space for large shop gear.

Thx for having me!

Dave, welcome to the forums. Were you mostly a fresh or salt water fish guy? I have been doing saltwater fish for 25 years just not with 60 tanks :) With kids I downsized and only have my big 600 gallon tank left. Welcome to the forums and if you need any help with them please reach out.

on the freshwater side, mostly killiefish, tetras, corydoras, and hypancistrus, been fortunate to collect in Peru 4 times, and Venezuela 1x (more than 23 years ago, when it was "safe", got out 10 days before the coup d'é·tat broke out) my biggest was a 75g, many smaller tanks.
