Does any one know what this maple is called?

I have a bunch of maple from Central Michigan that had been outside in the weather for a few years and it developed white stripes, circles and other white designs. When I brought it inside to dry the white areas were kind of soft. But now the white blotches are as solid as the maple itself. Just curious of what I have.

The black wood rot tends to create a pronounced figure in the wood, following the wood grain layers.
Each type of fungus has a preference as to the area's they prefer to feed on (grow in).
It would be interesting to do some color dies on white rot wood to see if it would add to the marble characteristic
of the wood grain when finished.

Its funny you should say "marble effect" it does resemble marble. White rot could be what it is but it is as solid as the unaffected wood. I have cut some up in pen blanks and some in deer call blanks. Can't wait for some warm weather to try some out. I think it will look pretty good.
Tim.
