Dog leg

I got a dog leg for our veterans group from robust. I don't know how I got along without this crazy thing! Many times my rest has been rubbing on a bowl rim and I had to modify a shape. This thing works.
I don't know if anyone else makes one of these?

Yeah - I got one when I switched to a new, significantly larger lathe and wanted to keep using the Robust tool rests with shorter posts...it works great for that purpose, also, as you point out, getting the banjo away from an edge. I do use it a lot more than I thought I would. The only thing I find a nuisance is having to reach for an allen wrench to loosen it up for a slight adjustment - been meaning to replace that cap bolt with a knob or ratcheting handle, but haven’t yet. Its not that big a problem I guess.

I have a Sweet 16 and the standard dog leg. I use the dog leg all the time. I have asked Brent if he would make one for me that was longer than his current one. He is considering it with his December run. If more people wanted one he might make it a standard item.

I guess that would need a thicker piece of steel?

Wow, never saw that one before. I like the lock lever, as mine uses a allen key

the Robust was $64.95 + $9.00 + shipping

The Robust also can use the long handled hex key from
a Nova chuck.....and a removable hex key never gets in the way

little Beaver maker. Very stout!!!

I have the lil beaver and love it......
The maker appears to be a very good machinist....

And me loving tools.....I just might buy that one..

I have the Robust dog leg.

That one from the Beaver guy looks like a work of art, and my first reaction to it was it's much better than the Robust design.......until I put some thought to it. The Beaver dog leg has a lot of stuff that is likely to get in the way. Maybe the Robust's "minimalist" concept is the better of the two, from a standpoint of practicality, after all!
