Electrical trouble with my Delta grinder.....need advice.

The new capacitor is installed, and seems to be working as normal. The "right or wrong" of it may not be apparent to those of us who are less informed that others.....but, it seems to be working, for whatever that means. :D

I don't believe a variable speed single phase motor would have a starting capacitor or starting windings and centrifugal switch so your problem is something altogether different.

Don, that is a special design single phase AC induction motor that operates in both two-pole and four-pole modes at a variable rate determined by the pot setting. That's why the minimum speed is near the speed of a four-pole motor (1800 RPM) and the maximum speed is near the speed of a two-pole motor (3600 RPM). I would be surprised if it didn't have a start capacitor, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, we are hijacking Odie's thread.

I don't worry about it, Bill......:D

Let the conversation go like it does in real life.....! ;)

If the original topic has more input......add to it, as it comes to mind. :)

My grinder has a little less vibration today. When I had it disassembled to remove the starting capacitor, I noticed the rubber mounts were slightly loose. My guess is the rubber took a "set" over the years, and the mount bolts needed a little tightening to take up the slack. While using the grinder, I noticed a difference, but it wasn't a big difference over what was last week. It is better, though......:D
