check with www.bestwoodtools.com They have quite a few. You may have to ask them about an odd thread size.

Highly recommend Sea Horse Custom. Introduced to them by David Ellsworth and they are the only plates I use now. Steel, double countersunk, comes with a center punch, and runout at about nill. Cheaper to, although that custom thread may cost a bit more. Make sure you ask for relieved thread to prevent binding on the spindle.

Does anyone out there know if conversion sleeves may be available for JoHannes? It would seem that a sleeve that would increase your drive spindle to a 1 1/4, 8tpi might make life in general a lot easier in the acessories department.

I was also going to suggest a conversion sleeve. It would make the problem of finding accessories much less of an issue. If you are going to do a search , sometimes you can find these sleeves as "Spindle Extenders" .
In either case Best Wood Tools is a good place to start. I recall that they have some sleeves available in their standard product list. In the case they don't have what you want, it would be likely that they can make it for you.
I have purchased from them in the past and they are nice folks to work with.

He can get faceplates made with the thread, but he will also have to have an adapter made for chucks and such. That will be a custom job, and while not THAT expensive, will be cheaper than replacing the spindle. The problem that comes in is that the adapter adds another 2" or so to the length of the spindle projecting out from the main bearing and that will increase runout, so steel is a must (too much flex in aluminum) a good machinist is required to minimize the issue.

Was actually thinking about a sleeve with lock screws. Kinda like a heliocoil thread repair kit.
What about taking the spindle to a local machine shop and having them cut it down in diameter a touch, thread it, mount a sleeve, and rethread it to 1 1/8 or 1/4 8tip? You're torque is kinda self limiting by how much pressure you can take with the tool so I don't see this stripping out a nice, 1/4" steel sleeve. And you're gonna keep at least 7/8 of your spindle with minimal extention so lateral torque shouldn't be a huge problem unless you're turning huge and unbalance pieces hanging out in the air without a tailstock.
Or is this just waaaay to complicated a way to go?
