Back in March I was looking at upgrading my Lathe. Currently have a Laguna 1216 but wanted something larger. Narrowed it down to the Record Power Regent and the Rikon 70-1824VSR2. I went with Rikon due to the wider speed range. It was originally scheduled to ship mid to end of May which was fine with me, but I just received notice that it is now estimated to ship end of September. I had planned on doing a lot of larger rough turning over the summer so I could do the final turn in time for all of the fall/holiday craft shows. I guess I could cancel my order and get the Record Power lathe (appears to be in stock at Highland Woodworking), but I missed out on the package deal that was offered in March.

That sucks!
I recently went thru the same as I waited 6 months for a Nova Nebula only to be pushed off again. I finally just decided to go a different way and ordered a Harvey T60. It shipped to me in less than 2 months.

You still have the Laguna? Life is tough, but in the grand scheme of things turning on your existing machine for a few more months is not the worst life situation. You could be waiting 4 months to get into a specialty clinic for your health.

Sorry to learn of the long delay
We should all expect disruptions to the supply chain and increased costs on imports.
Your delay may have nothing to do with tariffs but it might.

In April tariffs on China went from 30% to 54% to 135% Then in mid May to 30% for 90 days

September seems like 90 days from mid May. Could be related.

Also the cost of US steel went up 6-10% with the 25% tarrif on steel
Look for more increases to go with the 50% tariff.
US steel costs more when imported steel costs more - changes in supply and demand.

Look for lathes and turning tools made with US steel to increase in price

Bummer. Rob, maybe you could explain the situation to Highland. Perhaps they would offer you a deal.

My sympathies. Phil and I were in pretty much exactly the same boat – we'd both been on the looong wait for a Nova Nebula, missed ship dates culminating in the recent Teknatool USA Chapter 11 filing. Then we both happened to (finally, finally) end up with the Harvey T-60S. Very frustrating.

I hope you're able to work out your lathe situation soon, Rob!

I do still have the Laguna and am using it. Have been really happy with it, just wanting to do some larger projects that will not fit on the current lathe. Was was the really frustrating part is the 110V version was in stock when I ordered. I needed to do some shop build out before I could fit the new lathe so I opted for the 230V version as it was the same price, but with the higher HP motor. I am just finishing up the shop build so the original timeline would have been perfect.

I agree with you on the health wait. I know of people needing to wait until November to see a doctor regarding health issues that could be very serious. Mine situation is petty in comparison.
