Finish over translucent powder

I am working on a plate and did Sick n Burn with colors provides by Welborn Gourds Translucent powders. A totally new process for me. My question relates to finish over this powder I tried shellac since it is the all purpose finish but it basically makes the powder float. I had some spray for paintings also called a acrylic fixative and it seems to work on my test piece.
1. Is this the best approach?
2. Can I lacquer over it or do I need shellac first?IMG_4008.JPG
 
I would use a acrylic top coat instead of a nitrocellulose lacquer. You might be fine with a lacquer, but i always worry about the harsh solvents in lacquer possibly dissolving dissimilar coats underneath them. When in doubt, I always try to stick with the same class of sealer/finish.

Another reason to use acrylic is that nitro lacquer will yellow over time, changing the colors on your piece - which is some fine work, BTW!
 
I use Krylon Fixatif a lot. I have put wipe onmpoly over it and shellac. Have not tried other finishes. If you apply several layers you can buff it to a higher gloss. I used to use a lot of lacquer and may have tried that but just dont remember if I tried that.
