After 2 years of turning, my tool skills have improved enough that I'm bothered by the imperfect finish. I think I'd like to take a class on finishing. Anyone have a suggestion for a teacher or class they've taken and would recommend?

Two nationally known turners:
David Marks is an excellent woodworker and turner. You can take his 5 day finishing class or set up private lessons with him.

Jimmy Clewes is another accomplished turner. You can set up private classes with him as well.

And of course your local turning club probably has someone who is both accomplished and does teaching.
 
Thanks, Bill, that's what I was hoping for. Our local club is thinking of having Jimmy Clewes back again, so maybe I'll nudge that idea along. BTW, I had sought help from local club members and didn't get an actionable response.

Finishing is such a finicky and personal thing. Learn to sand properly and then any finish will work. I suggest starting with one finish and work with it until you learn what it will and won't do. Ask a lot of questions here and we will try to give you some help.
