Frequency of lathes for sale?

I bought my used vicmarc off of Facebook marketplace, after looking daily for a couple of months. I reached out the day it was listed, and offered the asking price. When I went to pick it up, the seller told me he had received five other offers that same day, but none for what he was asking. The lesson: if you see one that fits your needs, act fast and don’t risk losing it because of a lowball offer.

Mike’s feedback is really good. I scored my package because I didn’t wait, didn’t low ball, and knew what I was looking for or at. Lathes in competitive price ranges move quick; be persistent and consistent. I scan every selling platform for my area every morning over coffee, and every night before I go to bed. Mostly looking for options for friends.

If you have a local club let folks know that you're looking for one of those. Especially the guys that have them.

I bought my vicmarc from a guy that had three and teaches at his house. He said he thought he was going to be teaching more double sessions than had actually happened. I saw him while picking up some wood at a construction site and asked how things were going. He mentioned off the cuff that he was thinking about selling one and I immediately told him I was really interested.

Good idea. I'll give that a try with a local chapter in Las Vegas. I think most of those members frequented Woodworkers Emporium when it was still open. They were well represented in Vicmarc lathes.

I’m sad that place closed. I’m in Vegas frequently for work around Nellis and always stopped in to pick up some of the unique stuff they had in the Vicmarc and SB tool lines.
