My current stock of cherry is full of cracks so want to try to glue up some wood from the lumber yard, thinking about poplar,,,4” boards,,,,,four of them to make a 4 x 4 block about ten inches long... I used to glue up stock all the time, however that was back in the day of hide glue, etc.
I just read an article to use Hot Melt PUR. Haven’t checked it out at Home DippyDo yet, have seen some online.

What do you think?

Anything better?

Did some research,, I guess you need a special applicator which costs about $100, so forget that idea..

What do you suggest to glue up stock to turn?

I have turned many laminated glued wood blanks within several hours of gluing and clamping just so long as it is mounted between centers when starting out.
If you don't have support from the tail stock (between centers) then you want to wait until the glue is fully set. Any of the wood glues work fine.

Nope, no jointer , so have to use them as they come from Home Dippy Do.

Thanks for the ideas. Will try titebond... I first started using that 30 years ago...glad it’s still top choice.

This is glued up hickory and reclaimed 1940s walnut. I do have a jointer and planer though. I use titebond 3. Works great.
Also here is a laminate I made for spindle turning.
Just make certain you are gluing face or edge grain, not end grain with no gaps, and adequate glue with proper cure and it is stronger than the wood.
