I received much good advice on recesses and tenons for turning - thanks again to all that responded.
So I chucked up a small blank with a 3 inch faceplate on the top and proceeded to turn the bottom of the bowl with a recess for the chuck and pretty much finished it off. Then I took the faceplate off, reversed the bowl and proceeded to turn the inside; however due to operator error i turned the bottom too thin over the recess. Note to operator, allow a bit more meat in this area next time. Not being one to waste a $5 dollar bowl blank or pass up a design opportunity, I decided to pay homage to Stephen Hogbin and do something a bit different (well for me anyway). It still needs finish sanding and finish. I'm thinking of painting the inside. Any other thoughts, comments or critique?
Be safe and stay well.
