With deep sadness, I report the passing of Montana's most esteemed woodturner Gordon McMullen at the age of 86. Gordon was the founder of the Northern Rockies Woodworkers Guild, an AAW affiliate and our local high school turners club. He was a woodturner for 80 years and a mentor to dozens of local turners.
Gordon was an inveterate problem solver and an excellent mechanic, building many machines and tools he used in his craft. This included a 3500 pound bowl lathe which he was certain was superior to the VB and Stubby, and of which he sold a few. He would deny it, but he was a first rate and highly regarded artist. Having done everything he could turning wood, most recently, he enjoyed the new challenge of turning alabaster.
Gordon leaves Barb, his wife of many decades and a large, devoted family.
