Guys with the axminster chucks--

Do any of you have either one of these jaws?

I was just trying to figure out which would be more useful overall before I spent the money.

I like the grip on the outside of the one instead of just the dovetail on the outside of the other but the teeth are not as fine as a normal gripper jaw. And that's what I mostly use are my gripper jaws. Says good for green wood.

Thought I might try out a hollow form someday and who can resist buying another tool.

I’ve got Axminster and I turn hollownforms. And I’ve not needed those jaws. Spend the money on something else.

What jaws are you using for your hollow forms?

Same as for a bowl. Some 2-3 inch dovetails—Vicmarc, Axminster, Nova, whatever.

I don’t have either of those jaws. I usually use my 100mm dovetail jaws for most anything 10-14”. For my Axminster the most used jaws are the 100mm, C Jaws, and O’Donnell jaws. I have the Axminster Colossus Jaws that I have used maybe 2-3 times in the last couple of years. I also have a Hurricane HTC 125 chuck with about 3” dovetail jaws and a Talon chuck with the #2 profile jaws for smaller work.

Here’s how my hollow forms look after I rough turn outside and before I hollow. In a Nova chuck. Pictures are being turned for some weird reason. Sorry.
