Hawaiian wildfires

Thanks for writing this Dean. I saw some of the coverage on the news and it really is tragic. There are updates on the World of Woodturners website and his Facebook...

Emiliano,
Once again, our hearts go out to you, and your friends and neighbors, in this time of tragedy. We hope you are safe. Whatever we can do for you and the people of Maui, we will gladly do.
its a tragedy, my prayers and thoughts go out to all the people of Maui.

I read this morning that Emiliano, Wayne omahura and Kelly Dunn were all safe. I fell so sad for those who not only lost all their home and possessions but also their jobs and entire way of life. Can't imagine how hard that has to be. Lots of money is being raised but they don't even know how to get it.

It's great to read that they are all safe. Have their properties and livestock ben spared also ?

We are OK. One of the fires came very close to my house. My son was helping fight it alongside a crew of Haleakalā Ranch cowboys. A house minutes from ours went up in smoke. The winds were unreal, worst than any hurricane we ever had. 85 MPH. 20 houses burned in Kula, 5 minutes from my house. Lahaina Town is gone. 2000 houses are gone. Death count is up to 99. They’re 1000 missing yet. I wake every morning and I have a hard time believing this is real. I hosted 2 families for several days, they could not go back to their house till the fires were put out. The fire above my house flared up SUnday, helicopters fought it all morning. Sad beyond words. We are very strong community, we will rebuild.

For some of us this is déjà vu and I can imagine all too well the thoughts and feelings that are running the hearts and minds of many on Maui. But in this disaster there are always miracles, had the wind changed in direction Emiliano your house may not have survived. So I celebrate this as away to keep positive and as hard as this is for the survivors they have one more hurdle to face, returning to the place of devastation and loss to get some sort of closure.
I can remember coming home and meeting my wife at the front door step, seeing her clutching a small suitcase of the most important things we could carry as the water bombers did their best at the end of our very short street. We were lucky that day, we had our miracle.
Kia ora, kia roa te ora Emiliano.
