Help with old lathe

My 11 inch Delta woodturning lathe appears to be a Model 930 manufactured in 1937; I have identified the model number and date based on a photo on the Old Wood Working Machines web site, owwm.com. On the tailstock ram, above the hole for the Morse Taper, at about the 1 o'clock position, there is a 9/64" diameter hole about 1-1/4" deep. Above that hole on the side of the tailstock is an 8-32 tapped hole about 1/2" deep. Neither hole intersects the hole in which the ram moves in and out, nor do they intersect each other.

I'd appreciate any information anyone has concerning the purpose and/or use of either or both of these holes.

The hole is for a pointer for the index on the quill. The threaded hole is used to lock the pointer.
