This has always been something of an issue for me. I dont like blowing it out as it goes everywhere and covers everything in the shop and stopping to clean it is annoying.
So I made an internal sander with a hollow handle and run the vacuum through it. The vac hose is 50mm pool vac picked up at the local hardware hooked up to the 4" DC via a fist full of PVC fittings. Bascially it sands and sucks as it goes, works fairly well as I have yet to fit a blast gate to the other 4" line Then it should be just fine, I could set up one outlet instead of two but I have the other hooked up to the bandsaw and it gets used a great deal and the bandsaw belt gets chewed up without suction.

Your inventiveness amazes.
lol, had a career loosely based around these sorts of problems, process control and improvement, plus many years in R&D
