Would like to see your home made chatter tool designs and approximately how much it cost you to make. $60+ for the Sorby is a lot of money these days. Thank you

Size please

So in your experiences, what is the best length for the chatter blade itself and the tube/conduit that is holding the blade that is coming out of the handle? It is hard to judge by the photos. Thanks again.

The Sorby blade is 3/8" X 2 1/2" X 1/16". The conduit I used is 5/8" ID and is 2 1/2" long. It needs to be long enought to hold the hidden part of the blade, provide an adequate length to slide on the tool rest and hold enough of the handle to handle the stresses of use. The blade sticks out 1 1/4" which is what I recall Bonnie Klein recommending. Other sizes will obviously work but I wasn't real happy with the results of trying to maneuver the Sawzall blade with vice grips as John does. So I paid for a Sorby blade that I knew would work and then made a handle that would hold it.

Good luck.
