Any idea about honing gouges and or skews right off a 80 grit wheel on the Tormek leather wheel. Since I have the Tormek unit it would be convenient to use it instead of a hand held diamond unit.

It is a LONG way (grit-wize) from an 80 grit to the leather. You would be better off going to the Tormek wet wheel first (about 300 grit) and then to the leather. I think the leather would be overkill though and more than likely round over the edge (if you sharpen like I do!).
