Thank you so very much. I recognized the page, but somehow was previously unable to access the link. I’m assuming that I can initially choose the student access for digital access only to the magazine, then subsequently upgrade to the hard copy of the magazine when desired. Thanks again for the help.Go here: https://woodturner.org/Woodturner/W...spx?hkey=a63056eb-a036-45f0-93b3-63a3204ea89a Scroll down just a tad and click the join now button - Probably want the individual membership
Although if you don't need the paper copy of American Woodturner (I love the high quality magazine!) you could get the digital membership next to it, you just won't have a paper copy of the magazine for bedtime /bathroom/ campsite reading...
You may need to deal with glitches when you do go to upgrade, if you opt for the initial "free" trial membership... (I signed up initially on the Associate membership - sort of a trial - so I could read over the AW Magazine back issues - When I went to finally upgrade to full membership, I had to contact a support person by email and a little back and forth to get my payment to go through , and then had to wait through a few other glitches before they got my account fully straightened out... I Suspect I would have not had the problems I did if I had simply signed up to regular membership right off the bat...)Thank you so very much. Emiliano had a good suggestion. You can send all the wood to me, its a good start!Step one is we have to take your drugs away. I will send a container, part of the therapy will be to load everything in it, wood included. Cold turkey...
How do I? A wildfire recently burned through the grounds of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center that only scorched a part of the Center but burned through the native plants on the property. They had to cut down some Ponderosa pines and I took a couple of 4' long by 8" diameter pieces that I thought I might be able to turn as natural edge bowls to donate back for their upcoming fundraiser. So far the bark spalls off as I'm turning, even though I tried to stabilize with a coat of polyurethane.
Does anyone have any ideas for how I can stabilize the bark before I turn the pieces so it doesn't spall off? If it's not possible to stabilize the charred bark I'll try singeing with a torch to al least give the idea of a burned exterior, but I'd really like to keep the natural blackened bark.
Thanks for the reply Kent - but I don't see how I could do that without bathing the entire half-round in CA. That would require at least a 1 gallon vat of CA that would have to be used quickly before it all hardened. Maybe you're thinking of some other way of applying the CA?I believe most folks would use thin CA to ensure the bark stays put.

I thought a coat of polyurethane would do something like that but it doesn't penetrate the bark to bond it to the cambium layer. Maybe thinning the poly would help it penetrate better.
