I was hoping that someone could tell me if carbide tipped lathe chisels that are made for wood turning really work as well or better than regular hss tools?

I had a chance to try several carbide tipped tools. I was not impressed. They were very limited in their use. Considering the cost I would not choose them over HSS. Also, I can custom grind HSS tools to my preference.

Thanks I am just getting into turning and the carbide looked good because they say you dont have to sharpen them as much but theres always a catch.
