Recently, I saw a print ad for a scroll chuck that would allow you to mount jaw sets from various mfgs (Nova,Onway etc.). I can't find the ad or remember the manufactur. Can anyone point me in the right direction.??

Unless you have drawers full of various manufacturers' jaws, what advantage does it confer? Is it sort of like guys new to the game who talk about constantly regrinding their tools rather than learning how to use them as they are, a search for instant ability in the steel, rather than developing technique as a turner?

There's considerable overlap between manufacturers in the types of jaws they provide, because form does follow function. Pick a manufacturer and follow along. Pick the one with the greatest variety at the outset, if you think you want to buy a lot of jaw styles, but by all means learn to use the ones you have well before you make the decision to spend more money to get a different configuration.

Consider that a tailstock and steady can often give you more hold and versatility than another pair of jaws.

Hey Jonathan,

I started out with a little Nova a few years ago and upgraded to the Supernova II for just that reason; jaw interchangability. Been very happy with it so far. Also, huge variety of jaws widely available for this chuck.

I've used Oneways and Vicmarcs and haven't felt that they were significantly superior so I decided not to mess with a good thing.

I am under the impression that chuck are like any other tools (more expensive though) you can't have just one. If find myself having to change jaws mid stream, I look for ways to buy another chuck. But then again, I spend way too much time in the shop for a "hobbyist".
