I'm curious, why with a draw bar? I've never had a worry of mine falling out.
Primarily for using the chuck in the headstock (I do at times for various reasons) and a drawbar can be used in the TS - sometimes a deep drill bit can pull the chuck out when retracting. You can hold it by hand or use a drawbar.
Drawbars are good but I've had to remove things that were installed with the overenthusiastic use of one. If the chuck, collet,etc, can't be removed with a drift or by backing off the drawbar, be careful how far you tighten it. I hate pounding on bearings.
True. I use a small knob, 1-1/2” dia to tighten the drawbar for this reason. It does not need to he-manned, simply snugged up - the all thread is not going to stretch. Its there only to prevent the taper from coming out.
