We are sorry for the late posting of the monthly challenge. For this month's challenge, we will look in the kitchen. You can submit anything that would be considered a kitchen implement. Such as coffee scoop, tea holder, ice cream scoop, etc. This would allow you to replace that store-bought implement with something that, without a doubt, will become a family heirloom.
I know I'm guilty of not having turned enough items for mine. A few weeks ago, my son bought a pizza cutter with a pine-looking, very ugly handle. He told me he had waited long enough, LOL.

And now, the fine print from the official AAW Forum legal consultants -- Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe:
  • Only one entry per person and only one photo of your entry.
  • Entries must be posted in this thread.
  • The deadline for posting entries is midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on January 28, 2023.
  • As always, this is a turning contest, not a "moldy oldie" photo contest, so in fairness to everybody, make sure your work is something you have made after January 5, 2023.
  • You may not post any photos of your entry in this month’s challenge in any other thread or in the gallery until the voting has ended and a winner has been declared.
  • Voting will take place from January 30, 2023, through midnight UTC on January 31. 2023.
  • Solicitation of votes will result in disqualification.
  • The winner might have to pass a lie detector test before collecting the prizes. Good luck, have fun, make shavings, and let the chips fall where they may!!
When voting begins, you are allowed two votes, and once you have voted, you won't be able to go back and change your votes. After you have voted, you can track the vote totals. The voting is secret (just like a real election), so nobody else can see who you voted for (not even the moderators/administrators). The voting will end at midnight UTC on January 31, 2023. In case of a tie vote, the forum moderators will gather in a virtual waist-deep shavings-filled shop to determine the winner.

@Bill Boehme reserves the right to change any of these deadlines and or to change and add rules.

Well, I was not planning on an entry this month, but I finally got around to building my Wedgie Sled , and Just had to try it out. Didn't have any suitable wedge to set angle with, so I set 36 degrees on a protractor and transferred it to a T-Bevel , set up the sled for 10 segments and gave it a try. Since I lucked out on the first ring (perfect fit!) I made a few more before cutting a setting wedge to preserve my perfect angle setting. Looked at those segments (They were just leftover oak scraps) and decided to glue them up to see what I came up with, ended up with a taller, narrower vessel that only lent itself to becoming a wide vase, or a somewhat deep mortar, so I opted for a Mortar and Pestle set. Thus, my very first ever segmented ring turning in Oak on a Walnut base (Cherry pestle from a scrap of KD Cherry from neighboring lumber mill - they sometimes set out their excess scraps and off-cuts for firewood for free..)

This was my first attempt at both casting my own piece in a silicone mold and using cholla, which came from Arizona on a recent trip. After turning the pizza cutter, I had just enough to squeeze out a bottle stopper from the same piece so I thought I’d include it in the picture.
