Jeff,

I have been pulling out what little hair I still have trying to figure out why I can't seem to include an inline image in my post until I noticed that the IMG code has been turned off. What happened? Did I do something bad? The second question is just rhetorical, I already know the answer.

Bill

Bill - you didn't do anything bad. But a month or so ago, we had someone join and the first post they had an inline image which was basically a pointer to an advertisement. That was the only post they ever made, so it is pretty obvious they joined just to create an advert. At the time, it was not obvious.

So I've turned off inline code because of that. Also I have received a Vbulletin notice that inline code on this version can potentially be used as an exploit. So from a forum management standpoint the advantages of keeping it turned off outnumber the reasons to have it turned on.

I'm sorry you spent time trying to make it work, when I have the feature disabled. I like your cool avatar !!! Does he help you do any woodturning?

Since you guys started it, how do I get my kitty from a 19K file down to 80 x 80 size, whatever that it.
Richard,

That is the size in pixels, 80 wide by 80 high each pixel being one tiny dot of color. If you don't have something like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop, you can e-mail the picture to me and I will put it in my "shrink-inator" and send the shrunken head back to you.

Bill

I can reduce the file size with Corel Photoshop, but not sure how to get to the required pixel count. Will look at it again.

Edit: Christine says "Hi!" to Mr. Squeak and friends. It's too noisy in the shop, so she hangs out immediately outside the door. Thanks guys.

Kritters

I dono why you guys let the kritters in the shop.... I'd hate to think of the rampage the boys (two siamese and one red tabby) or the girls (5 grey's) could do. Actually I have caught the girls in the shop, but I had left the door open and they were checking for mice. But then the girls are a (neutered) colony of semi-ferals

Honestly, we have a photo of one of the siamese sitting on my wife's shoulder watching her make bobbin-lace. Of course that was because Mr Thread Sucker was wondering how he could get to the thread (I have I ever mentioned siamese are wierd)

How did you do that -e-???

OK, now I know that I really did do something bad! It is probably because I use my skew chisel to open paint cans and flip steaks on the grill, since I see that other folks here like -e- can post pictures.

Bill

It's easy to post pics in a text thread. Keep the text box open, scroll the window down, and select "manage attachments". I wrote more about "how to post pics" in the Help, Rules, and FAQ area.

IrfanView is another free photo editing program that you can use. I've found it quite easy to use for photo reduction and editing in the newsletter.

Thanks Jeff. I figured it out just before seeing your reply. I guess that I had this mental block about the tag and overlooked the obvious. I almost did it the right way initially, but then changed it before posting because I thought that it was not what I wanted. Who, me, read instructions? I don't need no stinkin' instructions.

i am certain their contentment comes from the hours of surveying their kingdom (and some birdie-watching) .

We call that Cat-TV (ie the bird feeders). Only, the red-tabby watches the birds, the part-bred Siamese watches the birds and the pure-bred Siamese watches the bird shadows on the floor (earlier I mentioned that Siamese are weird, didn't I)

Bill - that updated avatar of Mr. Squeak is very creative. It looks just like he is poking his head out from behind the forum. I'll bet Mr. Squeak gets into a lot of stuff without you nudging him there :-)

Peace (the symbols meaning)

But what I was trying to figure out is how Bill got a transparent background (around the top of the cat ) or did you just color the background the same? (what are the values?)
(I did figure out how to capture the screen, open it in Elements, and setup the fill with that color)

I don't know if the color has an "official" HTML name, but the value in hex is FFE3C6. I just used Photoshop to replace all the colors that were not part of the "Squeak-ster" with that value and then did a bit of drawing to scratch a hole in the forum wall. When you are retired and don't have anything better to do, well .....

Too bad I can't get a good pic of my horse-shoe crabs, starfish, corals, or shrimp. The digital camera just doesn't do good taking pics of stuff in an aquarium.

OT, But.....

Use manual focus with no flash. The auto focus is focusing on the side of the tank, and the flash is bouncing off the glass side.

Lighting

Also try adding a couple of daylight fluorescent bulbs. The color temperature you want is probably between 5000-5800K.

Fluorescent works well with digital cameras, and the lights give off a lot less heat than incandescent. This means your fish won't cook.

If you get a reflection of the lights or the camera (or you) in the tank change the angle of the lights. You can also add a white sheet between the lights and the tank to further diffuse the light. Sometimes hanging the sheet over the camera helps also.

If your digital camera supports connecting an external monitor or TV you might find it easier to focus. Trying to get a good focus through the viewfinder or small lcd can be difficult in some cases.
