Will the details of her salary be posted?

Is the AAW paying her to move and do we have to buy her house if it doesn't sell in Ga?

Also will the cost of the Transition Guys be posted as well?

Watch for the 990 tax return form to be posted in the Members Only section where salary and extraordinary expenses are listed on the document filed with the IRS at the end of the fiscal year.

If Ms. Bowden owns a house and wants to sell it, it would be most unusual for a NFP like the AAW to become involved in such a transaction which, I have the feeling, would be outside of its authorized activities as a 501c3 entity.

I welcome Cindy Bowden. Her resume is impressive and wish her well in her new job.

I wonder if the BoD put her under contract or hired her as an at will employee?

Why we ask the Questions?

Timothy - Why are you asking these questions? - John

John,
Questions about the hiring of the new Executive Director aren’t aimed at Cindy Bowman, but are inquiries into the BoD’s job performance. They should be held to the same standards that they held the last ED to. According to Tom Wirsing, that would be “financial management, business acumen, and clear and complete communication (in this case with the AAW members).

It seems like asking a question has become the big sin for some people on this forum.

Based on the resume posting she is a very sharp and competent lady. I can't imagine her taking the position without a contract. Of course, the first winter in St. Paul vs. Atlanta might be a deal breaker. I hope she doesn't have to put up with politics, we don't do it that way and instead is allowed shine in her own right. Her work is cut out but there is no reason she can't help make AAW a proud organization.

Now if she isn't a turner who will volunteer to give her the first lessons?

She put together “profitable†traveling exhibition programs with more than 19 million visitors throughout the United States, Chile, and Japan. Cindy brings to the AAW a view of and connections to the entire world. She is president of the World Craft Council North America

seems to me there was a post about reporting museums with woodturning in them, how would you like to have one of your turnings on exhibition program?

the bourd aspires, and reaches, to shape the future me thinks, caw caw :D

better check your fire wood

Lessons

I volunteer to give Cindy turning lessons. The only thing I would ask for is travel
housing and food.:cool2:
By the way, welcome Cindy.

As a retired head hunter of 30 years it would be a very unusual situation for a new employer to get involved with the purchase of a home at this level. Moving expenses normally are picked up by the new employer (moving van, etc.). The only time a company usually becomes involved in the employees home purchase is when an existing employee is being transferred.

Dick, We went from 100's of thousand dollar forgivable signing loans, out and out purchase of home at a large profit plus all related moving expenses like trips to the Bahamas for stress relief (70's stock brokerage) to if you can be here by Jan. 1 you have a job with a 20% pay cut (80's banking).

Cindy has made a deal that for the most part is no business of the membership. She has a large resume and will be a very valuable asset to AAW. Once she is past the first couple of months she will start to shine.

People should not be conflating private sector (including publicly traded) corporate practice with public charity outfits like the AAW. Were the AAW to purchase a house in this context, it would be a) prohibited from making any money on the resale, or b) open to a serious charge of misuse of donations if the property was sold at a loss.

A "lose/lose" deal for the AAW.

Footnote: This is a very different situation from one in which a house gets donated to the AAW and it then sells the property to realize the monetary value of the donation.

Hello,
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone has given me from AAW. I am very excited about working with the membership, potential membership, board and staff. I think we will all make a great team.

When I move to St. Paul in January and have a new AAW e-mail please feel free to write or call me. I truly believe it will take all of us to succeed and am very interested in our opinions and suggestions.

Thank you again for your welcome,
Cindy

I need to drink more coffee on a Sunday morning before posting. I am interested in your opinions not ours.
Coffee please ...

When I move to St. Paul in January.....
 ! ! !

That statement alone demonstrates to me that you are brave, motivated, and enthusiastic!

Glad to have you with us in the AAW, and I'm looking forward to working with you at the next Symposium and in the future!

I have to agree with Rob. I would call moving from Atlanta up north in January either extremely brave or crazy. :) I'll choose to believe the first one. Welcome aboard. We hope to share the ride with you. I'll be going to Atlanta for Christmas. It's only a few degrees warmer down there than Tennessee but I need all the heat I can get.

Welcome Cindy. We look forward to your contributions.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a smooth move.

Best regards, Tom

Welcome Cindy

Welcome Cindy your post are a welcome sight and best of luck. I know with your credentials you will take us to the new level.:cool2:
