Hello all,
I am new to woodturning. After moving back to my childhood home i have 23 pecan trees on my property that is constantly dropping limbs so i decided to buy a lathe. First thing i learned was that pecan is a very hard wood and the second thing is you get what you pay for. I bought a Vevor Lathe (see below). It is a cheap lathe but i have been makind due looking at getting a better lathe as i get a little better. I have turned a few rolling pins, a jar packer for my saurkraut, a few bowls and now getting into turning pens (First ones are in pic below). I am excited to be part of this forum so that i can learn more about the art of wood turning and look forward to suggestions.

Welcome to the forum Kennith! Those pecan trees are going to keep you plenty busy

And yep, pecan is about as hard as hickory.

Welcome! Please consider joining a local woodturning club. I believe you will find this a very good investment.

Welcome to the forum. I will echo Jim's post find a club and get advise before you get that next and more expensive lathe. In addition to advise you can find someone with the lathe you want and do a test run.

I would like to find a local club but the closest one is about 2 hours away. I live in the middle of nowhere Texas.

Many clubs broadcast their monthly meetings on Zoom. Three (2 in Chicago and 1 in Madison, WI) of the four clubs I belong to do so. I'm pretty sure I could get you invited, as a guest, if that sounds intriguing. My speculation is that many of the other clubs would do likewise.
