So I busted a tightening knob on my dovetail jig. Nothing I had in stock or could find would fit adequately because of the needed dimensions. I’d seen the hole circle tried to make the outer grip lugs so I tried it and it really worked. I think next time I won’t sand the rim so aggressively but what I have works fine.
The 5/8” steel core was bored, tapped, and counter bored to fit the 3/8-16 thread. Next I ground slots around the core’s perimeter to hold the epoxy. The epoxy was mixed with fine sanding sawdust to fortify the hold.
It was a fun little project that makes having a wood lathe rather useful. I may make some other machine knobs like this in the future.
