Hi All,
I am saving up for a 1836 and asked Laguna why they do not have a control box at the tail end of the lathe like the 2436. They said they simply don’t. So my question is has anyone tried to make a remote control unit? Any articles out there on how to do it. If you look at the 2436, there is a switch to select the tail stock control box for use. Which make sense. I would use it all the time. So I am hoping that someone has tried this.

I have the Laguna 24/36 so the remote-control box came with it. I can tell you I use the controls at the tail end of the lathe almost exclusively. I probably only use that switch to put the lathe on to headstock control once or twice a year. If you can figure out how to do it, you might just like it!

I know that I have read similar posts in the past, but I don't think that I've heard of anyone successfully doing it. One issue, of course, is that you would need to modify the headstock control panel to add a switchover switch of some sort.

Having said that, I have the 1836 too so if you manage to get it done I would be very interested in learning about it!

Hi Jeff! I have a 1216 and I ended up buying a remote switch from Rockler and attached a couple magnets. I mounted it at about knee height on the stand so I can hit it very quickly if I need to. While, having another set of controls at both ends is nice I've found what I really needed was another on/off switch in case of emergencies.
Here's the link to my switch: https://www.rockler.com/safety-power-tool-switch
