Made my own Longworth chuck out 12mm Acrylic to suit the big lathe 600mm dia at the time I was doing quite a lot of large open bowls, not so much these days it spends most of it its days hanging on the wall. Mounted of 6" face plate can handle dia's to 550mm down to 200mm.
The Longworth chuck was invented in the late 1980s by Les Longworth, a member of the Hunter Valley Woodturners in New South Wales, Australia. He developed this popular self-centering, adjustable chuck for finishing the bottom of bowls and passed away shortly after introducing the design. The club is about a three hour drive from here.
