Anyone who uses the Metabo RO sander do you also use an sanding pads with it? If so what do you use and where do you get them? I've used some soft ones from 3M but they're 3 inch and the sander is 3 1/8. Also curious what sanding medium you prefer.

I use oversize discs and pads that Vince sells. He sells a 3 3/8" pad https://vinceswoodnwonders.com/product/interface-pads/
I second Vince's. I recently obtained an electric random orbital sander/polisher. The sanding pad that came with it was 3" with a 6mm male thread. I bought online a 2" and and "1 disk both with 6mm threads. I bought all the interface pads from Vince! Also Vince's oversized sanding discs 2 2/8 and 1 1/8.
Not to go off-topic, I was thinking about purchasing ROS for a long time but couldn't justify going pneumatic. I knew about the Metabo, but found an electric variable speed unit by accident when I was looking to polish my headlights. Found one for 50 bucks on amazon! Also, I am currently doing a lot of inlay work and this acquisition with the smaller discs works like a charm. The angle drill is a little too aggressive and the detailer is a little slow. The ROS is right in the middle performance-wise and its random pattern leaves almost no sanding marks. ROS is not pushed by the WT vendors and you rarely see it being used in demos in the woodturning community as compared to angle drills but it's got my vote.

Thank you for those replies. I do have Vince's blue disks but will look into his pads. I know the Metabo has holes for dust extraction and a connection on the back for vacuum to be attached. I'm wondering if anyone actually uses that function? Obviously a solid disk would cover the intake holes.
Dave, you asked for the Amazon link. I’m also posting it to this thread. I found it cause I searched 3” random orbital Polishers in automotive. I actually paid 39.95 Black Friday. I’m not pushing this brand but I have had it for a couple months without issues.

Vince can custom cut discs for you. I had him make me some 5 inch discs for my Festool 5 inch ROS. Much better than the 'stuff' they sell.... Minimum order was 50 of each grit, and I sent him one disc so he could get the hole pattern correct because Festool has their own spacing. I would think you could use one of Vince's pads and punch or drill your own holes in them.

Mirka sells 3" Abranet if you want to use the dust collector. If you know a hobbyist with a laser engraver, they can put holes in any disc. That is what Vince uses.
I suspect very few turners that us the Metabo also use the dust extraction. I can't imagine dust is any harder on that unit than it is on any drill. I blow it out frequently and would find a dust hose cumbersome on an already large tool.
