Just saying hello to other turners. I live in Toledo, Oh .
I'm retired(about a year and a half now). For 35 years, i sold commercial turnings. Balls, shaker pegs, buttons and plugs to cover screw heads, spindles and finials.
I've worked at turning custom turnings and prototypes for several years.
Right now, I'm into doing red cedar birdhouses, hard maple bowls in the 6" to 10" diameter range. I also do a few pens but it's just not enough wood for me. lol
I look for and collect figured woods. Mostly maple. Some cherry and walnut. I've got more wood than anybody should have and hope to turn it all.
I started out on an old Oliver pattern makers lathe. Maybe 1902-1903 model 52 (variable speed believe it or not). Then it was on to a Jet 1014, and now a Jet 1221. I wanted the 1221 because I prefer to run forward and backward to sand and finish. Enough for now.
