I started turning in November. Spent lots of time reading and learning from the archives here. This has turned into my go to information source, so I’m hoping maybe I can give back some.
I’m mostly focusing on live edge bowls from green wood. There’s something very satisfying about finding a downed log in the forest and making something beautiful out of it. I’m finding I spend a lot more time cutting up blanks, finishing, and sweeping than I do actual turning.
I’m still setting up my shop. I have a Laguna 12/16, old Delta bandsaw with riser, and a harbor freight dust collector for sanding dust. I use a Wen wet grinder with Tormek jigs for sharpening. Next steps are a more sturdy bench for the lathe, and setting up the dust collector better.
I started this as something to keep me busy when I retire in a few years, but I’m finding that work is getting in the way of my turning!
