Multi Arm Tool Rest?

Hi Michael,

The Robust comfort rest might get you an inch closer. It is a rest I particularly like for up close work.

Turning the banjo 180 and putting the tool rest in backwards will get you closer if it does not hit the work.

There are commercial articulated tool rest attachments. Delta used to sell one. A couple of the English lathes had them. Maybe nova? Grizzly has one.

Down side is all the articulated arms will introduce more vibration. They can break and be potentially dangerous if made from cast iron.

Usually not a problem on small work unless you are doing thin elegant finials. I found this on the internet. http://www.busybeetools.com/product_manuals/B2338.pdf Al

Articulated tool rests like the one in the link tend to be bouncy. The levers are too long and not heavy duty enough. Not sure exactly what you need. One that cantilevers out more off the banjo? Maybe a different banjo?

That's a great idea. It hadn't occurred to me to try flipping the tool rest around. I guess I was too close to the problem. I'll have to give it a try over the weekend and see if I'm successful. Thanks!

I had the same concern about an articulated arm. I've used them on a Powermatic M90 and remembered it bouncing more than I liked. I can't imagine it would be too much of an issue for small stuff though.

Thanks alot!

Robust also makes a "Dog Leg"
