Need help with finial

made Easter box. 6 1/4 by 2 1/2. Place to sit finial 1 5/8 but can be turned smaller.

Need help on height , size, figure.

I would make something that complements the shape of the box by repeating the exiting form in a finial that is more knob like rather than something that is slender and ornate. I envision a knob/finial that is no greater than 1½ times the height of the box and incorporates a scaled down version of the beads and cove of the box.
 
I agree with Bill on a Knob rather than a slender finial. As far as height, I don't think there is a set rule. I would set various lengths and diameters of wood on the top to get a visual of how the piece might look.
 
You can always rough out a basic shape and color and place it on the lid and to see if the color and shape works well with the finished piece. After looking at it for a couple of days you will figure out what you really want for the finished piece.
