Since the gallery is still down I'll post these here. The first is a piece of wormy maple. I dug out the fras and then carved some more lines and holes. Filled the holes with thickened colored epoxy. finish is glossy Wipe on Poly but it doesn't show in the photo.
The second is a piece of quilted maple that I cut and book matched. Turned only the back side and then carved the handle. this is the thinnest mirror I've ever made at about 3/8" so it's quite flat.

Al this is probably the worst piece of wood from that board. A friend found this tree, had it milled and then is sending wood to top woodworkers and friends around the country to make something from it. Send him a photo of it and he's going to put it in a book. I'm just starting to experiment because I want to come up with something really good for the best part of the boards.
