Good evening fellow turners. I'm from Northern Florida and recently retired. I've been a woodworker hobbyist for many years, but just recently took up woodturning when I was gifted an inexpensive lathe with tools. So far, I've turned a couple of small bowls for my wife and have learned a few things. I'd like to learn from this community and hopefully visit a chapter soon. The nearest chapter(s) is 1 1/2 hours north (Jacksonville) or 1 1/2 hours southwest in Orlando. Looking forward to this new venture in woodworking/woodturning.

Hello Omar! I hope you find lots of useful info and ideas here!

Do you know any other woodturners close to you? Sometimes we carpool to clubs that are a bit of a drive. Turning clubs are so valuable - not only for the demos but to meet people, learn about resources, ask questions, find mentors.

Edit: I assume you already checked this page for AAW chapters:

Welcome, Omar. When I started a couple of years ago, I found www.turnawoodbowl.com invaluable for learning the basics of woodturning. He has dozens of articles and videos on his site and on YouTube. There are "masters" who have YouTube channels, but I'd start with the basics and then expand outwards. You will find this group more than willing to share what they know.
