I buy HSS blanks on Amazon to make NR scrapers. It's not expensive and can make different curves and shapes for what I need. My current parting tool is an old reciprocating saw blade. It's thin and flexes so I don't use it to go very deep (makes me nervous) or for cleanup up on the end of stock. I've got another piece of HSS that I'm making into a more substantial parting/detail tool and I see different shapes online. I also see people use them differently. Some have only the long single bevel to a point. Some have the long bevel and short bevel on the opposite side. This seems better to me and is how I have my sawblade shaped now. I've also seen them with the point in the middle of the steel. Not sure it really makes a lot of difference. I don't do much spindle work at all but have started doing hollow forms where I can use it plus would like to add some detail to bowl rims, bottoms, etc. I see some people put the long bevel side down, some put it up, to start their cut. Interested in what the options and differences mean.
