For some reason this website will not remember my forum login info. I do not have this problem with any other site I visit-just here. Not a big deal, I am mostly curious if I can fix it. I don't believe I have selected any option telling the site not to remember. Fortunately my memory is not totally shot and I can remember my info. (I still have to look up my login for the member only area though.) Any ideas ?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Don,

I believe it is because you have not listed your location in your profile. :)

But the truth is.... I have no idea.

I am on a couple of forums that insist that I log on every two weeks. It is a real pain, since I never log off. But this one tends to keep me logged in all the time.

As you can see, it is late and I am of no help. I am sure the mods will be along shortly to give you a real answer.

Hope all is well with you Don,

Best wishes,

Dave

Sounds like your web browser isn't setting (or retaining) a "cookie" needed by the forum software upon your return.

If you want to check, you can look for cookies from aawforum (esp. bbpassword and bbuserid) while logged in, and then again after closing your browser. Note, these do have expiration dates, but it's more likely you reboot your PC before reaching them.

If not there while logged in, your browser isn't "accepting cookies" from here (and maybe elsewhere, too). If there, but gone after closing your browser, they're getting "cleared" when your browser closes. Either way, check your browser's settings to modify the actions needed.

Assuming that when you login, the check box is checked (remember me) , here are some other reasons the cookie will expire or go away.

Clearing cookings - through the web browser or some anti virus or ad scanning tools.

Too long between logins - the cookies do expire, but I don't remember the time interval

Logging in with a private/incognito browsing session. Private browsing deletes all traces of your fun in that session as soon as you close the window

Using multiple browsers. Login with Chrome, then next time Thunderbird, etc. The browsers don't share cookies.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see what I can figure out. I'm no techie. My wife is my tech advisor but is not sure what the problem is. And yes I check the "remember me" box when I check in.

Bill-I use Internet Explorer on Windows 7.

Funny thing-this time when I came in to the forum from my favorites, I was logged in.:cool::cool::rolleyes:

See, you fixed it already. If the box is checked, and you visit the forum every week or so, the cookie will not expire (I think it lives for 10k minutes). The only way to remove it would be to actually logout of the forum, or through that browser, clear cookies. BUT I can see a scenario with Windows auto update, the browser would get updated and the cookies would no longer belong to it, not tat that is what happened, but possible.
