I need a large outside caliper and can't seem to find one. My friend has one that measures 25" when fully open and 26" top to bottom. He can't remember where he bought it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I can't tell from the description if 18" throat means the distance between the points or width in the middle.
For a one time or quick use you can make one from bare #10 or 12 copper wire with the tips filed round. This can also be used to measure wall thickness deep in a hollow vessel.
Not my idea but I saw it done at a demo by I think Ellsworth.

Just went to the shop and checked mine. 18 3/4" between the points at full open.
And faster than searching for one.
Harbor Freight - It's made of Aluminum and costs less than 10 bucks.
I poked around HF and couldn’t find anything that I thought fit the bill for this thread. Would you be able to post the link?
I checked the online catalog and it isn't listed. The Caliper is 24" with jaws that are about 3+" deep and has a vernier scale. It has no part number, just "Made in China" as its only markings

I think we’re talking about two different kinds of caliper here. (see the attached pics) It is my impression Paul is looking for something along the lines of the second example.
