Retired from the electronic, computer industry . 40 years too many. Coffee and wood glue are the staples of the day. Started turning in high school, but got serious about 6 years ago.
Picked up antique wood lathe circa 1890 by American Tool company. Belt driven, wood frame. The legs are 8x8 oak and the bed is 3x10 hard maple. can turn 26 inches inboard, 60 inches between centers. Head stock brown& sharp #3 taper. 1 7/8 6tpi. Machine shop made adapter to 1 1/4 8tpi..fun to turn BIG stuff Weighs in at 900 pounds1890 American.JPEG

Very cool. How did you come across this lathe, and what was needed to get it running again?

That's a very interesting lathe that you found with very unusual sizes for the spindle thread and the machine taper. It's great that you were able to get a spindle thread adapter made. It might be worth asking the machine shop if they could bore the rather small Brown & Sharpe 3 taper to a Morse 2 taper. I think that it would make the job of finding accessories easier.

Those old iron lathes will run forever when you take care of them, you might want to install an E-Stop on that machine
not much is going to slow it down or stop it in an emergency. Beautiful machine!
