This month’s club challenge was something with a finial. I have wanted to see if I could do an 18” finial, just for the heck of it. I was able to do it.

Now one of the questions is “so what”. I did it for my own satisfaction, but it appears like “show-off”. What is your opinion as I am struggling to even take it to the meeting.

Tihs is the only turning I have an appropriate name for.

definitely take it to the meeting.
.
showing off a bit - that’s sort of the purpose of the club challenges As well as seeing the different things people bring in.

you may win the “tallest“ maybe not.
take it and share. Process too!

My prediction: At the next meeting, someone will bring an a box with a 20 inch finial.

Nothing to do with turning--and i can't speak for others--but i tend to see "show-off" more in attitude & spirit than in the occurrence itself. Just asking the question in the way you did gives me the sense you'll have the right mindset. If you brought that to a meeting i was at, i'd be grateful for having had the opportunity to see it in person.
