I have to wonder...where did the "Robert Sorby" high standards for tool quality stop??? Recently got a chatter tool as a gift...had to file and stone out the slot/groove that the chatter part sits in. The over-all machining and the tacky chrome plating are poor at best, as is the case with the "multi-tip hollowing tool" (chrome is peeling off). I bet I will have the same luck with the deep multi- tip tool also. I think that if I am paying premium money, I should get a premium product. Well, it's off to another brand.....

Hi Don,

I only have a couple of the Sorby tools, but they have been really well made.

I would bet that if you contacted them, they would make it right by you. I have not done this myself, but have heard that they stand behind anything they sell. It is possible that a bad batch slipped through. I would contact them and give them a chance to make things right.

I am like you, If I pay top dollar, I expect them to be right.

Best wishes,
Dave

Sorby Tools

Hello there,

As a UK resident, and therefore nearer the manufacturer, and as someone who not only uses their tools but sees them at many trade shows, I know they would "make it right". In fact, I imagine they would be horrified that you are not pleased with the tools and do whatever they can to rectify it. You should contact them with your complaints.

Sorby are an old fashioned company, run on the old maxim, "the customer is always right". I am not saying they are perfect, no company is, but they have a great reputation here in the UK. My Father in Law had a gouge snap, and I think it was his fault!, and they replaced it, and added a bonus.

At the very least, you should complain.Manufacturers need to to be told when they don't get it right otherwise they never will. And it's your hard earned money after all.

Thanks to all for feedback. I really do not need replacements or my money refunded....just would like Sorby to maintain good quality. I would appreciate a good e-mail address for them....you could be right...maybe a bad batch slipped by the Quality control people.

BTW if you bought the tools at Woodcraft they will take back the tools, give you replaments, store credit or a refund. They will let Sorby know of the defects. I would suspect that ANY company you bought these Sorby tools from would be interested in makeing it right. One of the reasons that any store sells Sorby tools is that they are interested in selling quality products.

Sorby quality

Thanks for all the help and interest....fired off a nice informative e-mail to Sorby last night...I have 3 tools that I feel bad about...all the others (gouges, scrapers, etc.) are o.k. So the ball is in their court now. Will keep all of you updated.
