I don’t have confirmation but it appears that our long time SWT member and open segmenter extraordinaire Ray Feltz has passed away at 76.

Ray’s miniature segmented pieces were inspirational to many of us; there was no doubting who made them when you saw one.

I do know that Ray lived in Celina, OH, which is what the obituary noted.

Rest in peace Ray; you were not only an inspiration as a segmented Woodturner but your character as a fine human being was without question! This is one man that will be welcomed into heaven without issues.

Thanks for your fabulous work and your generosity; one of my fondest memories of our SWT Symposium last year was the long talks we had in the IG. You will be missed Ray!!

I will miss Ray as whenever I saw him I would ask "What's in you pocket?" and he would always pull out some small turning that had about 1800 pieces. Now these pieces were at least a 1/32" square (or smaller). I asked what kind of magnifying glass he used to glue these up and he said he used no visual aid. He said he could teach anyone to do it, unfortunately I lived too far to take advantage of that offer. He will be missed!

Wow! I saw his pieces late last year at Turn Fest. He is truly a master at segmenting. I blew me away seeing his work. I only met him for 10 minutes but could sense his kindness and generosity with his teaching. He will be missed.
