A number of years ago, I purchased a router. The original need was for some construction work, and I didn't need a real high end router. I bought a Skil 1322, which is kind of big and bulky, but it came with both a fixed and plunge base, and was a very good price on sale (IIRC, I spent about $100 on the whole set.) Worked great for the construction work, but as I've tried to apply it to woodworking, its not been so great. Its too large to be viable for finer work...its bulk and design make it challenging to route truly strait, and the large base diameter limits it to larger scale applications. I don't have a router table, as much as I would like one its just out of budgetary range right now. I also can't afford a smaller hand-held router from a more reputable brand, even though one would probably serve my needs far better than this thing does.
I seem to have lost the 1/4" collet for it. I am working on another little project where I need to use my 1/4" shaft bits, and I can't seem to find the 1/4" collet insert (or adapter) anywhere. I've found replacements listed on numerous web sites online. I even purchased one from one of them...and over a week after my purchase that was supposed to have 2-5 days of shipping, it was still just listed as "processing" and when I emailed them about it, they simply canceled the order.
There are many of these sites. Just found the collet on "fix.com", "toolpartspro.com", "partswarehouse.com", "partselect.com" and some others. I ordered it from one of these, which had the problem above. They all...seem to be nearly identically designed web sites, with only minor differences. Which makes me....suspicious, that whoever runs the one I ordered from before, may well run them all? The way each of these sites behave is just too alarmingly similar to each other.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with any of these sites? Are they reputable, or just a waste of time and money? Is there another source to purchase a replacement collet from? Here is the part I need:
I suspect it may well be a highly standardized part, and I may not necessarily need to buy the specific skill-branded or numbered item, so long as its the right dimensions.
Thanks.
