I have a Powermatic 2014 lathe, and the locking lever for the tail stock is on the back side of the lathe. I find this to be very inconvenient. Will I encounter problems if I disassemble the locking mechanism and reverse the shaft so that the locking lever is in the front side of the lathe?

I don't think you will have a problem. It has a snap ring to undo the handle if I remember correctly. It would be nice to have the handle position on the side like the 3520C.

Good Morning, I have the same lathe. I would love to relocate the tail stock locking lever too. I wondered if you had any luck with that. Thanks!

Amazing how some things you just never think about or have never had a problem with. My Powermatic and Nova DVR 3000 have the locking lever on the side. The Jet 16", the Vicmarc and the Nova Neptune all have the locking lever in the back. Sure hope now that I know that it doesn't gt into my head to bother me 🤪

Dunno about the Powermatic , but the Jet (Powermatic and Jet are both made by same company JPW, for Jet Powermatic Wilton Toolworks) is the same as described in original post, and I looked into swapping it to the operator side, but no can do. After long use, I find that in fact it actually makes more sense for the lever being where it is at least for right handed person...

Thanks for the response Brian. Ideally, the setup on the 3520C appeals to me, but is twice the cost.

I turned a handle extension like this for the table locking handle on my drill press.
