this weekend I scored a bunch of green walnut. The squares are about 24”, and the Burl in the middle is about 24”. It’s white oak. I would’ve gotten more walnut but the very large tree I was cutting up was on a very steep slope, and I only have a 25” bar. The blue color is a PVA sealer; it’s just what I had on hand.

I would love to, but it was all I could do to keep the 36” rounds from rolling down into the road. I will check in with the lady if I get through the pile quickly. Also, this was a very fast grown tree with 1/2” growth rings, hence a huge amount of sapwood, which I’m not especially fond of. I got all of the base below the branches.

The burl is a wonderful prize! I’d trade a bunch of walnut for that!
Rolling down into the road? Is that a problem or solution? Must be high traffic?
Definitely a problem. It’s not that busy a road but it does have a yellow double line. I had to cut off the 40” disappointing butt swell; there was surprisingly no figure in the base. I was expecting some curl at least. This tree had 3-4” of sapwood, so I cut the edges off leaving only the dark heartwood.

There’s plenty more smaller stuff available. I think the homeowner will have a hard time getting rid of it due to the steep slope. You’ll need to have a big chainsaw to cut through where the crown branches.
