Well, I might as well jump in here. I've only been turning for about two years. It's the thing I find most enjoyable in my little shop, but some days it really humbles me. I absolutely hate that clunking sound when a bowl or hollow form goes bouncing across the floor. I joined simply in order to learn as much as I can. I also suck up as much information as I can from Youtube.

I'm a member of the Independence Woodturners Club in Independence Mo. along with the Lee's Summit Woodworkers Guild in Lee's Summit MO. Not only do both of these groups have centuries of accumulated knowledge, but they readily share it. I learn something at every meeting.

Thanks for putting up with me.

Welcome, Scotty. I'm a rookie myself, having started turning early 2023. You'll find this is a place with nice people willing to share their tips and techniques.

Welcome! Joining a club... best thing you can do when you begin. Sounds like you might want to find one of your experienced fellow club members who would be willing to mentor you. There are many ways to hold wood safely on the lathe, but important nuances are often elusive or not obvious.

Welcome. You’ve been turning two years longer than I. Indeed, I turned my first bowl today and became acquainted with that grotesque sound. lol. 4 times so.
